Team CONTE Racing, a small husband and wife rally duo out of St. Louis, gave us one of the highlights of the Show-Me Rally, a small regional Rally America race held in Missouri, when they obliterated a mailbox — right in front of a spectator point. Of course there's video.
Team CONTE overcooked a tight corner in front of the Stage 6 spectator point in their 1991 Subaru Legacy rally car. The car slid off track, into a water-filled rut, and over a mailbox.
The mailbox crash was captured on video by a spectator:
Team CONTE wrote an apology in the dust on their car after the stage and shared it on their Facebook page. According to the post, they hit the mailbox with the LED light bar mounted on their front bumper (photo of the light bar, before the incident, here), and the car escaped without a dent.
The incident didn't seem to slow Team CONTE down. They went on to win the Show-Me Rally overall by over a minute.
And the poor guy who got his mailbox destroyed?
The rally organizers replaced it with a brand new (and much stronger) mailbox:
